What is Psychology?

The principles of psychology enable us to understand behaviour- vital in the world’s current climate.

 

The OCR Psychology Course:

 

§  The course aims to stimulate and develop your enjoyment, enthusiasm for psychology

§  Develop and demonstrate practical and research skills

§  Develop knowledge and understanding of the different areas of psychology and how they relate to each other

§  Appreciate how the subject develops and how its applications interact with changes in human attitude and behaviour

§  Recognise the value, use and misuse of the subject in society

Candidates will need to be familiar with four techniques for collecting & analysing data.

Core Studies

Fifteen core studies from each of the five psychological approaches

§  Social

§  Cognitive

§  Physiological

§  Developmental

§  Individual differences

 

Assessment

§  1 Hour written exam

§  30% of the total AS marks

§  60 marks in total

 

§  2 Hour written exam

§  70% of the total AS marks

 (Short answer questions/essay question)

§  120 marks in total

Options in Applied Psychology This unit will include four options, from which candidates choose two.

§  Forensic psychology.

§  Health and clinical psychology.

§  Psychology of sport and exercise.

§  Psychology of education.

Approaches and Research Methods in Psychology

Research methodology, where candidates are required to design a practical project.

§  Structured synoptic questions on approaches, perspectives, methods, issues and debates.

Assessment

§  1.5 hour written paper

§  25% of the total Advanced GCE marks

§  100 marks in total

§  1.5 hour written paper

§  25% of the total Advanced GCE marks

§  80 marks in total
